Slow Stop — Race Lost
A race leader pits for fresh tires. A stuck wheel nut extends the stop to 5.5 seconds instead of the usual 2.3. The driver drops from first to fourth and spends the rest of the race unable to recover because dirty air prevents overtaking.
Safety Car Double Stack
A safety car comes out and both teammates need tires. The team double-stacks: the first car gets a 2.2-second stop, then the second car rolls in. The second driver waits 3 extra seconds but still benefits from the free stop — without it, they'd have to pit under racing conditions later, costing 12 more seconds.
